Imagine a life without pain. No aches and pains, no sore knees, no tension-headaches after the long commute home. But here's the twist … Pain means you're still alive. It's a lesson Billy Harper will learn. Billy is trying to pick up the pieces of his shattered life when he rents a cottage on the Whitcombs' property in New Canaan. Everything that matters has been stolen from him, leaving his heart numb.
He needs a miracle. And he receives one in the form of the Whitcombs' four-year-old daughter, Carolyn. With her infectious personality and unorthodox outlook, she reminds him what it is to truly live, and his heart begins to thaw. But a series of ominous incidents make him realize that there is something very wrong with Carolyn.
It escalates to one so surreal that Billy wonders if she might be an alien, or maybe she really is his angel. Then when a rogue military organization called Operation Anesthesia learns of Carolyn's "gifts," Billy must risk everything to save the life of the little girl who helped him to live again. A fast-paced thriller mixed with a heartwarming story of redemption. And a character unlike any you've seen before in Carolyn Whitcomb. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. After exiting the Marine Corps, I wanted to go to college. I was working a dead end job as a night dispatcher. I ordered this book, and during slow times at work, I would read and practice this book. It is extremely easy to understand and it really cleans up the way one writes. It is written for kids between the th grade. It has silly exercises and pictures.
I used its knowledge immediately when I entered college.
It was instrumental in helping with my first papers and my an eventual English class. I now have an AA, am working on my bachelor's degree, and I hope to continue through a master's program. If this is not a heck of an endorsement, I do not know what is. I've purchased a lot of grammar books in my time, and I've disliked all of them for a number of reasons. I was beginning to think a grammar book that didn't talk down to you while being incredibly boring in the process was a pipe dream; however, I purchased this with a gift card I got for Christmas on whim after the reading the reviews.
Long story short, I couldn't be more pleased with this book. A great buy for all age groups, whether you're just looking for a quick, easy reference or trying to teach your younger family members like I am.

If you only buy one book on grammar in your entire life, make sure it's this one! This is a great and fun grammar guide. I keep it on my desk for when I have a question. I also lend it to students who I think need to brush up. One person found this helpful. I bought this book for my Court Reporter wife. This is her bedtime reader before going to sleep. I am her guinea pig and get quizzed constantly, I don't need this pain. I purchased this for use at home as we home-educate our children.

I thought this would help me to brush up on my grammar skills, but my kids immediately picked this book up and started using it on their own. It is very user friendly - an easy read for any age, and a great review for middle and high school students. My 14 yr old uses it as a reference when she is writing.
Having graduated from high school many years ago, my last grammar course was a bit out of date. The purpose for my purchasing this book was to obtain a quick reference for current rules of grammar to help convince my friend why I suggest certain changes in his book before his manuscript is submitted. I was a bit disappointed when I realized the target audience for this book was kids. However, as I read it, I was delighted. Adults who were staunch grammar students from decades ago like myself can refresh their knowledge as well as learn a few things in the process - all in an easy-to-understand format.
