A fine collection of classic stories. No one ever mentions how racist it is though. I'm not sure whether the original Arabic versions are racist or if it's the French translators from Arabic who are racist or the English translators from the French translations who are racist. In actual fact I'm reading a book that is two translations of very different languages away from the original Arabic so how can I possibly say that I have read these stories accurately?

Let's just assume that all versions are equally racist and tread carefully when explaining the meanings of the stories to people we know and love. The first 10 volumes with Arabic title. A Very Good set. The black cloth boards are largely clean with moderate rubbing and scuffing to the edges, corners and ends of spine; spine ends are frayed. It appears each volume had a bookplate that has been removed. Volume 1 has a light brown stain at the base of the spine, and a 1" chip to the bottom of the front free endpage.

All edges are gilded. Silk moire end leaves and silk book mark. Covers are generally Fine, though show a few light spots of rubbing. Gilded edges of text shows light scuffs and scratches.
The covers of Volume I are slightly bowed. All volumes with Easton Press book plate showing previous owners name. Volume X shows water damage with most leaves being wavy and a little wrinkled. Some leaves in Volume X show marginal tide marks, though none of the leaves have stuck. Despite flaws, this set still looks nice and has great shelf appeal. This is a very good copy of this sixteen volume set, subtitled - A Plain and Literal Translation of the Arabian Nights Entertainments, translated and annotated by Richard F.
