The first few chapters seemed like enough for me but I will finish it and post an edit here. This book will free you from getting sucked into group-think and will allow you to recognize it when you see it. The political division in America today stems from this "group-think".
Book- Under the Influence; The Destructive Effects of Group Dynamics
Definitely a useful read if you want to free yourself from natural tribal behavior. One person found this helpful. I was a member of this cult as a child and I don't have adequate words for how much this book helped me heal. The information is solid, and I refer back to it often. The only downside is that the writing is a little stiff.
And, like a previous reviewer mentioned, the poetry didn't do much for me. Goldhammer shows great insight into the ownership of your thinking by organizations, whether it's the organization whose employee you are, or another organization that wants you to behave in a certain way to meet its standards for appearance and control.

Good read, somewhat abstract. The shipment arrived on time and in excellent condition. I would gladly recommend this to others. All that I expected! The only thing that I did not like about this book was that occasionally the author inserted some of his poems That seemed bizarre and totally out of place to me, but it was easy to just skip them, and this was a minor flaw in an otherwise very enlightening book about the often invisible but enormously powerful dynamics of group-think and herd behavior.

Already the book sings to me, demanding I look into it. Significant events and experiences shape our lives and in many ways create our future. My life was forever altered by my experience in a religious cult. Not only did I abandon my passions in life, I spent fifteen years following someone else's path. When I finally awakened from my enchantment, I found myself with near-zero self-esteem, a lot of regret for many wasted years, and plenty of anger at my naivete, as well as being furious with my former group.
I felt that a gigantic chunk of my real identity had been stolen from me without my conscious consent. At the same time, I felt a euphoric sense of freedom and complete delight that I now had my life back in my own hands. Again, I haven't read the book yet, but an Amazon review says the author writes from his own experience in alerting a reading audience to the dangers that lie in wait for the unfortunate who may be persuaded or bullied to join a group or cult.
The author, a psychotherapist and New Age cult survivor, explores the self-destructive aspects of the relationship between the individual and the collective dark side, examining destructive group characteristics such as mind control, propaganda, developmental regression, and ideological totalism.
